Common Core

Everyone keeps talking about Common Core. Sometimes, I do not know what to think about it. I do not know whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. I think I have decided that it is a good thing, though. I know that everyone sees Go Math and thinks, "Oh my gosh, Common Core is the worst thing in the world!" The thing about that though is that Go Math is NOT Common Core. Common Core is just the standards. How each school and school system decides to teach that standard is up to them. This is one of the great things about Common Core. All Common Core does is give the teachers the standards that they have to teach. Common Core lets the teachers or schools decide how they want to teach those standards. If they want to teach Go Math, then they can teach Go Math. So, people may gripe and complain, but Common Core really is a good thing. I know in Alabama, they are trying to get rid of it right now. If they do that, we will have to go back to the old way of teaching. This means graduation exam, ARMT, SAT, etc. I think that things are great just the way that they are right now. They do not need to change one bit.
